PERMANENT EXHIBITION

ONCE UPON A TIME ...
ABOUT THE HISTORY OF KLOSTERNEUBURG

On 5th February 1298 duke Albrecht I. conferred a new municipal law on the inhabitants of Neunburch closterhalben. This "new" town, till then only including the district round St. Martin’s church and the so called "Obere Stadt" was expanded by the so called "Untere Stadt", which made way for a farmer’s market as well as a landing place for the trading at the Danube. Those three districts were the headstone for the nowadays Klosterneuburg, which became the third biggest town in Lower Austria in 1954 when the so called "Katastralgemeinden" were incorporated.

But the actual history leads back into primitive times.
So the exhibition will showcase the becoming of the so called "Babenbergerstadt" from its first settlements up to today. On planning this exhibition the "ease of use" for children was of big importance, too. That’s why this town history exposition was divided in two parts: one for adults and one for children, at which the second was created by "kids for kids".
Translations of the plates are available to english speaking guests.
