"... nicht eine Spur mehr von den verflossenen Tagen."
"… no remnants of the past days."
THE JEWISH COMMUNITY IN KLOSTERNEUBURG
HISTORY. FATES. MEMORIES.
14th November 2009 until 9th May 2010
In cooperation with the municipal archive of Klosterneuburg a group of pupils of a secondary school researched Klosterneuburg’s Jewish history. The project started 2005. Since then it was possible to find out a lot about Jewish life before and after the annexation of Austria to Nazi-Germany by getting in contact with several research institutions and affected families all around the world. Therefore it was possible to document the growth of the Jewish community from the middle of the 19th century until its extermination during the Nazi-regime as well as some individual fates of expelled or perished persons and families.
Now the results of this ambitious project are shown at the Stadtmuseum Klosterneuburg. Also the Jewish everyday life in Klosterneuburg, the synagogue and the cemetery are important parts of the exhibition. On the entrance of a “room of remembrance” the names of all Jewish people of Klosterneuburg, who were deported and killed in the concentration camps of the Nazis, are shown on a screen-presentation.
